UK stay- Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa (Somerset)

We were invited to stay at Cheddar woods resort and spa, UK, with friends to celebrate their 30th birthday. As the weather was nice, we packed up the car and head off to spend the day at the beach. Weston-Super-Mare is only a 25-minute drive from where we were staying so we decided to go there. There was plenty of parking along the sea front and as soon as we had got out of the car Daisy and Poppy began complaining about how hungry they were (is 11:30am too early for fish and chips on the beach?).

We had never been to Weston-Super-Mare before so had to try and sniff out the best fish and chip shop (out of dozens claiming to sell the best). So to really get the seaside experience, we got our food and went to sit on the beach. However, that turned out to be a big mistake! Just as we had sat down to eat, a seagull swooped down into Johnny’s box of chips and sent the contents flying everywhere. Chaos commenced! Seagulls were everywhere, the girls were screaming, I was trying to grab up our blanket (and Elsie, who I believed for a second, was small enough to be carried off by this army of birds) and Johnny stood staring at his lunch being devoured! Not the best start to the trip, however I’m sure it was great entertainment for the locals.

After lunch (well, what was left of it), we went for a walk along the Grand pier in search of the arcades. The arcade is huge and could easily provide hours of entertainment for the kids. However like all arcades, it could end up costing you a small fortune. So, we spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach, building sandcastles, playing bat and ball, and paddling in the freezing cold sea.

We left around 4pm to go to meet our friends and check in to our lodge. Cheddar woods resort and spa is in the most beautiful location surrounded by woodland. Daisy said, ‘it looks like we’re in Jurassic park’, minus the dinosaurs of course. Our lodge was towards the back of the site (Lodge number 91), which turned out to be a bonus because the views were incredible! If you are staying here, I would highly recommend requesting one of these lodges just so you can enjoy the breath-taking scenery!

We stayed in a self-catering luxury lodge with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan kitchen/dining room, and living area. You have your own private decking area outside, with patio furniture (some lodges even have hot tubs). We were amazed at how clean and spacious the lodge was. It definitely lived up to its 5-star gold rating. There are a range of activities you can book during your stay such as archery, fencing and body-zorbing. There is also an indoor swimming pool, gym, spa and bowling alley.

After unpacking we walked down to the bar for a drink. We sat outside on the patio which overlooks the garden and children’s play area. The restaurant serves a variety of food including breakfast, burgers, pizza and there’s even a kid’s menu for the little ones. However, if you would rather make the most of the self-catering facilities, there is a small onsite shop where you can buy a variety of food including local produce and disposable BBQs.

Cheddar woods resort and spa is in a great location with so much to see and do nearby, such as:

We enjoyed lots of walks during our weekend in Cheddar. The woodland provides a great place for the kids to explore. And we were lucky enough to get to see the incredible air show at Weston air festival (the red arrows never fail to amaze me).

So, would we stay at Cheddar woods resort and spa, UK, again?

If you are looking for a beautiful place to stay in the UK, i would highly recommend Cheddar woods resort and spa!
